IHRA

Scholarships for Central and Eastern Europe

The IHRA is pleased to announce scholarships for Central and Eastern European delegates to the 13th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm in Slovenia, March 2002. The scholarships are possible because of a grant from the International Harm Reduction Development of the Open Society Institute.

The scholarship will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and registration at the conference.

Applicants must submit an application by letter, either by email, fax or mail, including an abstract of a presentation they would like to make at the conference.

The abstract will be judged on the following criteria:

Relevance to harm reduction - the conference accepts presentations which are relevant to reducing the health, social and economic harms associated with individual, community and social harms from drugs - including alcohol and tobacco;

Topicality - interesting and topical issue not repeating what is already known;

Soundness - taking into account of the type of presentation, clear and appropriate methods or argument and sound conclusions.

Care will be taken during the selection process to ensure that unfamiliarity with written English will not be a barrier to success.

The abstracts will be peer reviewed along with all other abstracts submitted to the conference. The selection of the scholarship winners will be made by a panel which will choose from the best abstracts from the peer review process. This panel will include Professor Gerry Stimson, Programme Director of the conference, Dr Alex Wodak, President of the IHRA and Professor Diane Riley, of the IHRA Executive.

Abstracts should be submitted in the normal manner to the conference organisers (abstract@ihrc2002.net). Please go to http://www.ihrc2002.net/abstract.html for full instructions about how this should be done.
